A new year
A new year--a new opportunity

I love the idea of a new start—a chance to be better, do better, spread more love and compassion and to put a little more wisdom into my actions and my words.
We often think of the start of a year as this type of opportunity and it is, but we forget we have the same opportunity each day, each hour, each action, each word. We usually don’t get to be a better person, partner, teammate, family member in big jumps, but rather in small actions and improvements. A kind word, a generous action, a thank you, a pause before speaking, taking the high road, forgiving, really listening, letting go of assumptions and preconceptions, seeing the best in someone (especially when that’s difficult)--all of these, over time, make us better.
It starts with the intention to work towards being your best self. So rather than setting big resolutions or goals for yourself this year—set the intention each morning to do a little better today. Make it specific and doable—it doesn’t have to be big or grand, just a step towards the person you want to be. Every journey starts with a step.
